Welcome, Leadership Macomb XXIX!

Leadership Macomb is proud to welcome LM XXIX! Our first two session days—the LM XXIX Opening Retreat and Government Day—gave class members a strong introduction to the people, places, and systems that make Macomb County a vibrant community.

Opening Retreat Highlights

LM XXIX began at the Italian American Cultural Society Banquet Center with a warm welcome from Leadership Macomb Board President Jim Marchand and Executive Director Karen Smith. Class members learned about the program’s goals, expectations, and the importance of building meaningful connections with fellow participants, alumni, and presenters.

Vicky Rowinski, Director of Macomb County Planning & Economic Development, shared why there is so much to be proud of in Macomb County. The day also included class introductions, Macomb County trivia, lunch with LM alumni, and a Real Colors Personality Assessment led by Joline Davis. Together, these activities helped participants start building relationships and better understand the communication styles that strengthen collaboration.

Government Day Highlights

Government Day brought LM XXIX to the Clinton-Macomb Public Library and later to the Macomb County Communications & Technology Center. Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel welcomed the class, followed by conversations about local assets and issues, how government works, and the role of county infrastructure.

Participants also heard from local leaders representing municipal government, education, and county government during the Voices of Local Leadership panel. The afternoon at COMTEC offered a closer look at Macomb County’s 911 system and emergency response operations, led by Angela Elsey and Brandon Lewis.

The day concluded with a discussion of the 2026 midterm elections led by David Dulio of Oakland University, reinforcing the value of informed civic engagement.

Looking Ahead

These first two days set an exciting foundation for the LM XXIX year. We look forward to seeing this class continue to grow as informed, connected, and engaged leaders who will make a lasting impact throughout Macomb County.
