Junior Leadership Macomb Welcomes Its 12th Class of Future Leaders

This June, Junior Leadership Macomb proudly welcomed its 12th class—38 exceptional students representing 19 high schools across Macomb County. Over the course of an inspiring and fast‑paced week, students explored careers, developed real‑world skills, and strengthened their understanding of what leadership looks like in our community. Designed specifically for Macomb County teens, the JLM summer camp provides hands‑on experiences that prepare students for life after high school. The program introduces participants to local industries, community organizations, and leaders who play an important role in shaping our county.

A Week of Growth, Exploration, and Real‑World Learning

Throughout the week, students participated in five themed days, each built to encourage confidence, curiosity, and career readiness:

  • Introduction to JLM   – Students met their cohort, explored leadership styles, and kicked off their week of discovery.
  • Justice Day   – Participants learned about Macomb County’s justice system through interactive conversations with law enforcement, legal professionals, and government leaders.
  • Medical Day   – Students gained firsthand insight into healthcare careers by engaging with local medical experts and learning about the many pathways within the field.
  • Career Readiness Day   – Focused on preparing teens for the workforce, this day covered resume writing, interviewing, networking, and professionalism.
  • Community Service Day   – Students gave back to the Macomb County community, learning the importance of service, empathy, and civic responsibility.

Each session helped students better understand their strengths, identify potential career paths, and build confidence in their future.

Impactful Outcomes From JLM Class XII

This year’s program results speak for themselves:

  • 91% of students   reported feeling more prepared for interviews and resume writing.
  • There was a   71% increase   in students who now have a clearer idea of what career path they want to pursue.
  • Participants built genuine and lasting connections with peers and professionals across Macomb County.

The program also featured more than   70 volunteers, speakers, and panelists   representing a wide variety of careers and industries—from public safety and healthcare to business, nonprofits, trades, and technology. We were especially proud to welcome back   three JLM alumni, who returned to help lead sessions and encourage the next generation of leaders. Their involvement reflects the strong sense of community and continued engagement that Junior Leadership Macomb fosters.

Building a Stronger Macomb County—One Student at a Time
