Help Us Sort Food for the Hungry
In Macomb County, and throughout the country, postal workers will collect non-perishable food items placed by mailboxes on Saturday, May 10th as part of their annual "Stamp out Hunger" food drive, the nation's largest one-day food drive. You can help out in two important ways:
1) Leave non-perishable food items in a bag or box near your mailboxes before your
letter carrier arrives on Saturday, May 10th.
2) The Macomb County Food Pantry will need help sorting all this food so the can
get it to those in need.

We need 35 people at each session. Please reserve your time and get specific directions by calling 586-445-7127 or by emailing Leadership Macomb by May 15th. Participants will get a Leadership Macomb t-shirt.

Turning Point
Turning Point is looking for committed individuals willing to volunteer their time, talents and skills and treasure to assist Turning Point toward meeting its mission to end domestic violence and sexual assault.
Turning Point is currently recruiting individuals for our governing Board and Board Committees with the following skills and interests in the following areas: personnel management, technology, strategic planning, fund development, public relations, marketing, building and facilities, finance, and event planning. We are looking for individuals with corporate and business connections.
Turning Point is planning a capital campaign in the coming year and the next few years will be a very exciting and challenging time for its board members. We are planning an expansion and renovation of our emergency shelter capacity.
Mission
Turning Point’s mission is to provide programs and resources that enable victim/survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness to regain control of their lives.
Turning Point believes that all people have a right to a violence-free life. We work to end the use of violence as a means of oppressing and controlling others. We endorse the concept of helping people assume power over their lives. We do this by: Educating the community about the dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault and
homelessness, acting as a voice advocating for the people we serve. -Developing and promoting model programs that address the root causes of violence and the enhancement of the quality of life for present and future generations.

Board Recruitment
Mentoring Solutions is recruiting quality candidates to join its Board of Directors. We are currently recruiting volunteer board members to help with fundraising through business sponsorships, our annual golf outing, a large prize raffle, and individual donors. The ideal candidate will already have contacts to help in these areas or are motivated to cultivate new relationships, and is willing to ask people for help. Between quarterly board meetings, funding team meetings, and working with leads to help secure funding or mentors, board members average approximately 5-8 hours per month. We want members who are willing and able to make a commitment to the board as a means to impact kids.
Mentoring Solutions is dedicated to improving the lives of children in Metro Detroit though school-based mentoring programs that focuses on life skills, goal-setting, and career planning. Locally, programs impact children who live in Detroit, Highland Park, Howell, Monroe, Oak Park, Pontiac, Sterling Heights, and Warren. The long-term goal is to impact youth throughout the United States.
Named the 2007 Innovative Mentoring Program of the Year for Michigan, Mentoring Solutions strives to not only create wonderful opportunities for its students and mentors, but also for its board members. We have an initial orientation for members, continually support them in their efforts, and have on-going professional development.
